Drumm 60th Anniversary Commemoration Details [Posted: 2.07.09]

On Tuesday the 12th of July 1949 the last of the innovative Drumm Battery Trains worked its final service from Harcourt Street station to Bray, thus bringing to an end a unique chapter in Ireland's railway history. On Sunday the 12th of July 2009 the Irish Heritage Railway Group will host a small event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of this historic occassion. The day will consist of a short return journey on the LUAS Green Line from Harcourt Street to Sandyford - retracing as closely as possible part of the route that was once the stamping ground of the Drumm railcars. Afterwards, our group will retire to the Odeon Bar, located in the old Harcourt Street station building, to toast the late Dr. James Joseph Drumm and his groundbreaking form of motive power.

Itinerary:

  • 4.00pm - Meet at Harcourt St. Luas stop
  • 4.15pm - Depart Harcourt St.
  • 4.45pm - Arrive at Sandyford
  • 5.30pm - Depart Sandyford
  • 6.00pm - Arrive at Harcourt St.

(Note: All times are approximate. Journey is undertaken on a scheduled LUAS service, priced at the standard fare.)

All are welcome to join us. If you are planning to attend we would be grateful if you could send a quick email to info@heritagerailway.ie to confirm. We will distribute a leaflet containing a brief history of the Drumm Battery Train on the day to anyone who is interested.

Veolia Transport have notified us that a permit is required in order to take photographs on their property and we would ask that all who attend the event respect this policy. To obtain a permit, please contact Veolia directly on +353 (0)1 461 4910 or by emailing info@veolia-transport.ie.

We would like to thank Veolia Transport and the Railway Procurement Agency for their co-operation in allowing us to stage this event.
